Axillary
The axillary lies deep in the delto-pectoral groove and extends from the teres major muscle on the humerus to the outer border of the first rib. Use ultrasound to distinguish the axillary vein from the axillary artery and cephalic vein. The axillary needs to be accessed using an angled puncture to avoid the pleural space. The vein is approximately 3. 5 centimeters below the skin surface.
