FLOW DYNAMICS
(continued)
More than 160 years ago, Jean Louis Poiseuille developed and documented the principles behind the laminar flow of blood through capillaries and veins. An important element in determining blood flow is the radius of the blood vessel – the larger the radius, the slower the blood flow. Additionally, the larger the vessel, the better the hemodilution, or mixing of blood with a solution, as larger vessels transport more blood ( ).
