Hunter Biopsy Sealing Device

with ready-to-deliver gelatin foam pledgets

The Hunter biopsy sealing device is intended for use in percutaneous liver biopsy procedures to facilitate hemostasis of the biopsy tract and, if desired, mark the biopsy site with a radiopaque marker to help relocate the site for subsequent intervention or diagnosis.

Four pledgets and one push rod stylet all packaged in one convenient kit

  • Radially compressed pledgets for smooth delivery
  • Gelatin foam results in hemostasis as well as superior echogenicity
  • Tantalum coated tip on one pledget adds radiopacity
  • Gelatin resorbs within 12 weeks
  • Stylet has etched markings at 1cm intervals and a movable depth stop to allow accurate delivery
  • 14G, 16G, 18G and 20G sizes for compatibility with standard coaxial biopsy needles

Preparation (prior to the biopsy procedure)
Before performing the biopsy procedure, insert the push rod stylet through the biopsy cannula exposing the first marker band, and slide the depth stop to the marker band closest to the biopsy cannula hub.

Delivery Procedure (marking the biopsy site)
Upon removal of the biopsy sample, the biopsy cannula should be left in place.

  1. Gently position holding tube #1 in the hub of the biopsy cannula so that the radiopaque portion of the pledget is at the distal end of the holding tube (Figure 1) NOTE: If marking the biopsy site is not desired, discard holding tube #1 and gently position holding tube #2 in the hub of the biopsy cannula
  2. Advance the push rod stylet into the holding tube, gently pushing the radiopaque pledget through the biopsy cannula until the depth stop reaches the holding tube (Figure 2)
  3. Remove the push rod stylet and the empty holding tube from the biopsy cannula
  4. If an additional pledget is desired, gently position holding tube #2 in the hub of the biopsy cannula. Advance the push rod stylet into the holding tube, gently pushing the pledget through the biopsy cannula until the depth stop is 2 cm (i.e. 2 marker bands) from the end of the holding tube
  5. Hold the push rod stylet in place, and pull the biopsy cannula back until the holding tube reaches the depth stop (Figure 3)
  6. Remove the push rod stylet and the empty holding tube from the biopsy cannula
  7. If desired, repeat steps 4-6 with tubes #3-#4
